Piroxicam

Piroxicam

Piroxicamum M01A C01, M02A A07

Brand names: Brexin, Erazon, Feldene, Feldoral, Hotemin, Pirox von ct, Piroxicam, Proponol, Reumador, Veral, Vurdon.

Pharmacological properties: AINS from oxicames family lanced on the pharmaceutic market since 1981. Has anti inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect. Its action mechanism is explained by cyclooxigenase inhibition and prostaglandins synthesis. In limb algetic syndrom it diminishesor removes inflammation and aches in pause, as well as in movement, reduces morning rigidity and articular edema, favorises moves volum growth. Anti inflammatory effect appears at the end of the first week of treatment. After one dose the effect persists 24 hours.

Prescribed for: rheumatoid polyarteritis, ankilopoietic spondylitis, gout crisis, dysmenorrhea, and periarteritis, trauma aches.

Contraindications: Hyper sensibility to drug, active or recurent peptic ulcer, pregnancy, age less than 14 and more than 65 years. Hepatic or renal diseases, cardio-vascular insufficiency, bronchial asthma.

Dosing: Initially 40 mg once per day, usually during breakfast, for maintenance 20 mg once per day. If gout: 20 mg de 2 times per day for 4-6 days. The gel or ointment is applied locally.

Side effects: In large doses or long-term treatment nausea, vomiting, epygastralgia, anorexia, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, irascibility, cephalalgia, cutaneous allergic reaction, hepatic and renal functions disorders, sodium retention in the organism and edemas are possible.

Drug interactions: Increases the effect of cumarin anticoagulants, sulfamide, hydatid, and litium. Decreases the acetyl sallicylic plasmatic level.

Cautions: renal and hepatic, gastrointestinal affections, arterial hypertension, erythematous lupus. In long-term treatment blood test and biochemical controls are recommended.

Brexin (Chiesi Farmaceutici, Italy). Drainable tablets 20 mg N 30.

Erazon (KRKA, Slovenia). Capsule 10 mg N 20. Suppository 20 mg N 10. Gel 1%-35 g in tubes. Ointment  1%-35g in tubes.

Feldene (Pfizer, USA). Capsule 10 mg N 30. Injectable solution 20 mg/1 ml in vials N 6. Gel 0,5%-25 g în tubes.

Feldoral (SEDICO, Egypt). Capsule 20 mg N10. Suppository 20 mg N 6.

Hotemin (Egis, Hungary). Injectable solution 20 mg/1 ml N 5.

Hotemin (Egis Pharmaceuticals, Hungary). Capsule 10 mg and 20 mg N 20. Ointment 0,5%-50 g in tubes.

Pirox von CT (Arzneimittel Chemische Tempelhof, Germany). Tablets 10 and 20 mg N 20 and N 50. Suppository 20 mg N 10 and N 50. Injectable solution 20 mg/1 ml in vials N 1, N 3 and N 30.

Piroxicam (Amniocen, Romania). Tablets 20 mg.

Piroxicam (Jelfa, Poland). Coated tablets 10 mg N 20.

Piroxicam (Sopharma, Bulgaria). Capsule 10 mg and 20 mg N 20.

Proponol (Help, Greece). Capsule 20 mg N 10. Gel 0,5%-50g in tubes.

Reumador (Slovakofarma, Slovakia). Gel 5 mg/g in tubes of 58 g.

Veral (Slovakofarma, Slovakia). Suppository 100 mg N 10.

Vurdon (Help, Greece). Tablets 25mg N 30 and 100 mg N 10. Injectable solution 75mg/3ml in vials N5.
